Autumn Unicorn

Autumn UnicornThis happy fellow looked like he just needed to be made into an Autumn birthday card, and when I finished getting the colors in, and added all the leaves, I knew I was right. The colors for the Splitcoaststampers weekly color challenge really added a bright finishing touch for the card.

The stamp is from Third Coast Rubber Stamps (Autumn Unicorn BD-028-O) and he is really cheerful looking. I stamped him twice in London Fog grey (Tsukineko Memento Ink) on white cardstock (Bazzill Basics – Coconut Swirl). The first one became the base to be attached to the card. The second was painted with watercolor crayons (Caran d’Ache), followed by pearlescent watercolors (Niji) just over the unicorn so that it had the gleam I wanted. I colored the sky and ground using chalks to create the autumn feel I wanted for the background.

The card itself is done in the colors of the challenge: turquoise, kraft, and red-orange papers (all Club Scrap). The 8.5″ x 11″ turquoise cardstock was cut in half to create a finished card size of 4.25″ x 5.5″. The kraft layer (one of the colors for the challenge) made a nice buffer between the red-orange and turquoise. Using paper photo corners (also kraft paper), I glued fall leaves (from EK Success and Marvy Uchida paper punches) to those and then attached them to the image layer before attaching the whole thing to the card. As a finishing touch, I added the paper punched leaves along the bottom edge of the image.

Fantastic News!

I’m so excited! I’ve been chosen as one of the painters for Third Coast Rubber Stamp‘s newly created Design Team! They have a wonderful assortment of unmounted stamps, all different sizes and styles, to appeal to pretty much any type. I can’t wait to get started!

I love rubber mail!

Went out for coffee last night with my heart-sister (we’re as close as sisters, but not related), and when I came home, I realized I hadn’t checked the mail yet. I’ve been expecting a package from one of my favorite stamp companies, but the whole week has been one disappointing trip to the mailbox after another. So I reached in, pulled out a couple of catalogs (one from Dick Blick! Hooray!) and a magazine, and then some other mail… and then I felt the plastic, bubble-wrap interior envelope shoved to the back. I pulled it out, a feeling of anticipation and glee racing through me. Was it? I turned the package over and checked the label. Yes! My newest acquisitions from Third Coast Rubber had arrived! I hurried into the house, greeted my husband and sons (who’d been at a Lego event that day and into the evening), and then opened my prized cargo.

Beautiful rubber images, unmounted and ready for me to attach cling foam to them, slipped into my hands. If it hadn’t been fairly late, I’d’ve cleaned and mounted them last night. Instead, I looked through them, seeing their placement in the project I have planned for them. Tonight, once everything and everyone has settled, I’ll clean them, mount them, and cut them out, for tomorrow I shall stamp!
